MAGETAN | NARASINFO.ID – The final day of the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) “Dirgantara Lengkara” at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) Campus 5 concluded with an Expo of Student Organizations (ORMAWA) and Student Activity Units (UKM) on Friday, August 21, 2026.
Held in the UNESA Campus 5 courtyard, the expo gave new students an opportunity to explore 17 student organizations, comprising the Student Executive Board (BEM), Student Representative Council (DPM), and 15 Study Program Student Associations (HIMA), along with 12 Student Activity Units (UKM).
The 12 UKMs had previously been introduced through a student activity parade on the third day of the PKKMB program.
From the start of the event, the campus courtyard was filled with booths representing the unique identities of each organization. New students were encouraged to visit the booths, ask questions directly to organization administrators and UKM members, and learn about the activities, experiences, and opportunities available throughout their university journey.
The expo also encouraged interaction across study programs. Students could visit organizations outside their respective academic fields, giving them a broader perspective on campus life and the various opportunities available at UNESA Campus 5.
Creative Booths Introduce Student Organizations
Each organization presented a different concept to attract new students while introducing its identity and activities.
The HIMA Communication Studies booth, for example, featured a booth frame displaying the word “IKOM,” which became a popular spot for interaction and photographs. Meanwhile, HIMA Early Childhood Teacher Education (PGPAUD) presented a busy book as an educational medium related to the development of fine motor skills in early childhood.
HIMA Guidance and Counseling offered another interactive concept through its “Glow & Grow Tree.” The tree-shaped board invited new students to write down their hopes, aspirations, or personal concerns on sticky notes and place them on the tree.
Interaction also took place at the Student Entrepreneurship Program (PMW) booth. Several new students used the opportunity to ask questions about the program’s implementation and proposal submission process.
The 12 UKMs also showcased their respective identities through a variety of interactive presentations.
UKM Theater attracted attention with its colorful costumes, giving new students an opportunity to take photographs while learning about its activities and registration process. Meanwhile, UKM Boxing provided boxing gloves, hand wraps, and a punching bag, allowing students to experience basic punching techniques firsthand.
Through these creative approaches, each organization sought to provide new students with a more engaging introduction to student activities and organizational life.
Exploring Options Before Making a Choice
The expo was more than a showcase of student organizations. It also became an opportunity for new students to explore their interests and identify activities that could support their personal development during their university years.
Throughout the event, students moved from one booth to another, asking questions, taking photographs, participating in discussions, and learning about the process of joining organizations and becoming involved in campus activities, including PKKMB committees.
One new student said the expo helped provide an early picture of the organizational opportunities available at UNESA Campus 5.
“With the ORMAWA Expo, I now have an idea of what I want to do in semesters one, two, three, and beyond because I was given an overview of which ORMAWA I can join as a new student,” the student said.
Finding a Space to Develop Their Interests
For some students, the expo also helped them make decisions based on their existing interests.
A new student from the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) Study Program, for instance, said the event helped determine which UKM to join.
“I already have an idea of which UKM I will join because I enjoy playing volleyball, and UNESA Campus 5 happens to have a volleyball UKM, so I decided to register for it,” the student said.
Despite the midday heat, new students remained enthusiastic and continued visiting the booths until the event concluded.
After four days of PKKMB activities, including various sessions and study program introductions, the ORMAWA and UKM Expo served as one of the final opportunities for new students to explore campus life beyond the classroom.
More than simply marking the end of the PKKMB “Dirgantara Lengkara” program, the expo provided a starting point for new students to identify their interests, build connections, and find organizational spaces where they can learn, contribute, and grow during their time at UNESA Campus 5.
